Red Army Fund Signings

Gordon Greer

Doncster Rovers defender Gordon Greer became the fourth RAF funded signing in February 2009. Greer initially joined on a months loan which was later extended to three months.

His signing by new manager Danny Wilson made an immediate impace in stabilising the side`s defence which had previously been leaking an alarming number of goals.

Andy Lonergan

Preston North End goalkeeper Andy Lonergan became the third RAF funded signing in November 2006 when he joined on a months loan.

With first choice keeper Peter Brezovan ruled out with a broken arm, caretaker manager Ady Williams needed to bring in some experienced cover for his squad and signed Lonergan to compete with Phil Smith for the goalkeeping position.

Lonergan, a former England Under-21 International first came to prominence in the Preston first team in 2004-05 before a cruciate ligament injury hampered his progress.

Chris McPhee

Brighton striker Chris McPhee became the second player signed using money from the Red Army Fund on transfer deadline day 2006. McPhee was brought to the club by manager Iffy Onuora to add some extra firepower to his side with 8 vital games left in Swindons battle against relegation.

McPhee, pictured with RAF co-ordinator Paul Wardell, and RAF donors Marie Nash-Cox, and Jamie Cox, made his debut as a substitute in a much needed 2-0 win over Chesterfield at the County Ground.

Wardell commented: "We got the call from STFC asking if they could use the Red Army Fund to sign Chris McPhee on loan from Brighton until the end of the season and we were only too pleased to be able to help out.

Michael Proctor

On 22nd February 2005 the Red Army Fund contributed to its first loan signing when striker Michael Proctor joined the club on a months loan from Rotherham with the RAF fund largely paying his wages for the month.

The following day, Proctor made his Swindon debut in the home game against Port Vale and scored what proved to be the only goal of the game as Town moved closer to the play-offs with a 1-0 victory.

Regular donors to the Red Army Fund had an extra reason to celebrate after the goal, as one put it : "When Michael Proctor scored last night I had that extra special feeling that comes from being able to contribute to, and support, something which is very important to me, and many others."

The player himself was also delighted to give the fans a return on their investment, saying :"I think the scheme itself is a great idea and it keeps the supporters involved in the club. Hopefully I can give the fans and the manager an immediate return on their investment by scoring a few more goals in my time here and help get Swindon into the play-off places."
